A pretty hilltop cave house, located in the small village of Carramaiza in the Granada province, Andalucia, with breathtaking views of the Sierra Baza & surrounding sierras. Sleeping up to 6 people this 3 double bedroom cave offers spacious cool living with large dining/social area, living room, mosaic bath and wood burning fires.
Ideal for a romantic getaway, yoga retreats, sports enthusiasts, photographers, anglers, hikers, those who need to unwind or people who just love nature and the outdoors.
Incredibly peaceful, yet near enough to the town of Cortes de Baza (7kms) to not feel too isolated, here you can go out and enjoy the many bars, get your shopping in one of the two small supermarkets or go for a dip in the outdoor public pool (July and August only). There are even three nightclubs hidden away in this little town!
Carramaiza is a small rural village with a unique architecture of approximately 80 cave houses, with exceptional views of the surrounding sierras & Cerro Jabalcón mountain (where you can go trekking, climbing, mountain biking, horse riding, bungee jumping, paragliding and hang-gliding). There are 4 lakes nearby, all within 40 minutes drive, these are suitable for swimming, fishing (especially trout), canoeing and various other water sports. You can also find a couple of natural spring swimming pools nearby (complete with fish!) and Lake Negratin's hot mineral baths.
Carramaiza is on the edge of a high climbing plateau and that means cool breezes come up from the lake below in the summer. These moderate the high summer temperatures, and in terms of climate for the south of Spain, it is incredibly favourable. The sky is expansive and blue, with fantastic sunsets, and in winter, temperatures can fall below freezing and blankets of snow fall over the olive and almond groves. Of course, being inside a cave means you have an all year round temperature of about 18 degrees C, so it's cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Plenty of wood is supplied for the two wood burners and an oil filled radiator should you need it. In the summer the cave feels wonderfully cool, a welcome relief after being out in the scorching temperatures which can get up to around 45 degrees.
The cave is fully equipped: bed linen and towels are provided plus all your kitchen essentials including fridge, freezer, oven/microwave and washing machine. There are three bedrooms - two with double beds and one with king size, just outside one of the rooms is a sofa bed which can sleep 2.
There is also a small portable stereo, tv (only for dvds), dvd player, selection of films and books.
